Case I.?"Wazooddeen Khansamah, age 30 years, Mussulman, Bengali, was admitted into hospital on 14th October 1876, with an incised wound, about 2| inches long, on the left temple, cutting through the temporal artery and exposing the bone. On admission both ends of the artery were tied, and the wound was dressed with lint and weak carbolic acid lotion. Internally quinine and opium draught Avas administered morning and evening, with milk and sago as diet. The patient, up to 25th, did not complain of any pain or uneasiness in the head, nor had he much fever. He did not show any symptom of injury to the internal organs. On the morning of the 25th, slight paralysis (affecting both motion and sensation) of the left side of the face was noticed (side corresponding to the wound), which gradually increased ; and Subsequently headache, sleeplessness, and strong fever supervened. This was followed on 1st November by tetanus, affecting the whole system. On the appearance of tetanus, chloral alone, in 20-grain doses, was given every 6 hours for 2 days, and then quinine, 10 grains, was added to it. On the 12th he first showed signs of improvement, and the dose of quinine was reduced to 5 gi'ains. With these two medicines alone, aided by nourishing soup, eggs, milk, and sago, the patient gradually, but completely, recovered, and was discharged perfectly cured on the 4th

January 1877.

Case II.?Tripatte, Coolie, age 25 years, Hindu, Madrasee, admitted into hospital on the 16th December 1876. His friends said that about 8 or 9 days previous to his admission, while breaking stones, he injured the two last of the of the left hand. This was phalanges ring finger followed soon after by fever, and by tetanus after 4 or 5 days. On admission, all the symptoms of this disease were present, and the fits (spasms) were strong and occurring at short intervals. Bowels were unloaded immediately by means of a turpentine and castor oil enema, and he was ordered 10 grains of quinine and grs. xxx of chloral in draught He was fed with meat, soup, eggs, milk every 6 hours. and sago. He was discharged from the hospital, perfectly cured, on the 1st February 1877.
