Dr. Richards Bhawani Kurmi was brought by the Police on the morninc of the 21st October 1880 to the Bai Bareli examination. It was said that he had cut off his own penis 1 the day before. a Is cultivator in History. comfortable circumstances Has been married tor the last twelve years, and has had two children, one of whom died in infancy and the other is a girl aged about ten and healthy : wife is alive. According to his relatives and the Police report, has never been suspected of being insane. About two months ago became the chela of a yogi who at his own request made him a lliagat State on admission.?The penis is cut off on a level with the scrotum : the cut is uneven as if done with a blunt knife and the scrotum is slightly injured from the instrument having slipped. The stump of the penis is a quarter of in inch in length and the skin is retracted, exposing the con ion cavernosa : the testicles are healthy. He is a well-nourished. strong-looking man aged about twenty-seven I ook? quite happy, and says he feels no pain : passes water fi-eolv When asked why he acted so, he answered: "Bhu?w?' ordered me and so I cut it off." Says he will not return to Ins house again, but, if he recovers, go on a pilgrimage and become an ascetic. Is perfectly rational on every point b it this. He had told the police as an excuse that he had had incurable syphilis for six years, and that was wliv lie tated the organ. The portion cut off was afterwards exa mined. A blunt rusty old knife was sent in by the Police and l.n ' lic confesses to have operated with this. Unlike the case already referred to, this man has expressed * no wish to be castrated. A Second Case. This differs from the first case both in the organ mutilated and in the motive for the act. Mahabir Singh Thakur, aged about 30 years, was sent bv the Police for examination 011 the 28th September 187(5. It was said that he had cut out his own tongue. .History. He says that for three years he was subject to fever every fourth day. He vowed tp the goddess Debi that if his fever got well he would shed the 'blood of his tongue in her honor. The fever left him three months a^o, but he waited to fulfil his vow until the eighth day of ?the li
