Purpose of the Conference The Transatlantic Conference (TAC) on lung diseases is held annually and is now in its 29th year. The general purpose of the meeting is to review recent advances in lung biology. The specific objectives of the conference are, first, to summarize current knowledge and suggest new investigative approaches to enhance our understanding of fundamental mechanisms underlying a well-focused aspect of lung biology. Second, the conference aims to assemble a multidisciplinary group of scientists from within and outside the pulmonary research community in this area of lung research. Finally, a major aspect of the conference is to encourage exchange of ideas among investigators in different countries. The 29th conference on “Innate and Adaptive Immune Responses in Airway

Disease” successfully addressed these aims. Under the chairmanship of Clare Lloyd, a group of leading experts in the field discussed recent advances in the mechanisms and potential therapeutic interventions for immune responses in airways diseases. This symposium report formed the basis of these productive discussions.
