TREATMENT OF CHOLERA BY SUBCUTANEOUS INJECTION OF CORROSIVE SUBLIMATE. The

Editor,

"

Indian Medical Gazette."

Sir,?The Gazette for July 1889, contains a notice of the treatment of a case of cholera by deep subcutaneous injection of corrosive sublimate. As I have since then had an opportunity of applying in a measure the same treatment with apparent success, a few details of the case may prove interesting. Constable Imam Khan arrived at Chindwarra from Nagpur at midnight on the 17th September. Cholera was prevalent at Nagpur along the main road, and also to some extent in Chindwarra itself. He was taken ill at 2 a.m. on the 18th, and brought to the Police Hospital. I saw the man at 8 A. M.. when well marked symptoms were present. Frequent vomiting, frequent rice-water stools, cramps in the calves and partial suppression of urine. The hospital assistant had administered 45 drops of chlorodyne and chalk mixture in three dose*, but the medicine was entirely rejected. Remembering Dr. Baker's case, I determined to try corrosive sublimate. I had however forgotten Bloxam's formula, and therefore used the B. P. liquor. Of this I injected deeply into the buttock about one dram aud ordered a Sinapism for the loins. At noon he was distinctly better. The vomiting was less frequent aud slightly colored stools less frequent, cramps very slight, and lie had passed urine by 7 p. M.; the vomiting had entirely ceased as also the .cramps, the stools though 19?&?Had passed only 3 stools semiliquid were colored. fluid during the night?convalescent. Yours faithfully. W. PRICE, Surgeon-Major, Civil Surgeon. 25th September, 1889. ?
