QkirapmUitw. THE STRYCHNIA TREATMENT OF COBRA-BITE. To the Editor, " Indian- Medical Gazette. " should feel greatly obliged if you would give me your valuable help in some work I have been doing on the of the strychnia treatment of cobra-bite. This help subject I would ask you to give me by publishing the following remarks and request:? Of the cases hitherto recorded in which strychnine has been used on snake-bitten patients the majority have been returned as recoveries, but in no case can I find satisfactory evidence that the snake was identified by a competent authority as belonging to the Thanatophidia, the patient at the same time recovering under the influence of the strychnine treatment. Further, I find a few cases in which strychnine was fully exhibited and yet death resulted. I am anxious to know of any case of snake-bite successfully treated by strychnine in which the snake was identified beyond a doubt as a cobra, krait, daboia or echic. Further, I should esteem it a great favour if any medical officer or subordinate who has had a fatal case which he has treated by the strychnine method would let me have the notes of that case at his earliest convenience. I need hardly say that if any such contributor did not wish publicity given to their names or cases, I should respect their wishes most carefully. I am anxious not to anticipate the publication of my work on this subject, but I feel it a duty to state that I consider the free administration of strychnine in snake-bite to be far This opinion is shared by many from a safe proceeding. leading officers of the I. M. S. in Madras who have witnessed this on my experiments subject. II. H. ELLIOT, Surg.-Lt., I.M.S.,
