The Focused Scientific Sessions (FSS) of the combined 65th Annual Meeting of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and 49th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ASVCP) begin on Sunday, November 9, 2014, following the opening reception where the FSS posters are displayed Saturday evening. Sunday and Tuesday sessions include Clinical Pathology, Diagnostic Pathology, Education, Experimental Disease, Natural Disease, and Industrial and Toxicologic Pathology topics. We anticipate a large number of original abstracts from institutions all over the world once the website opens the middle of May 2014. The meeting abstracts will be published on the ACVP website as the Proceedings of the Annual Meeting and will add to the permanent searchable archive of annual meeting proceedings available from 2012. Abstracts will be posted in an ‘‘open-access’’ location on the website approximately a month before the meeting for review. The website offers the ability to search by any word in the title or body of any abstract. Moving the abstracts to the ACVP website has brought flexibility to the timeline by allowing a later abstract submission date of July 1 again this year. Also, use of the website allows easy access to veterinary pathology topics and increases the visibility of ACVP while also providing an enhanced resource to serve people around the globe. The Focused Scientific Session Committees have been hard at work organizing programs to showcase the work of our college members and to bring innovative science and technology from outside resources to the attention of our membership. Highlights in Atlanta from the various sessions include the following: Clinical Pathology: Featured speakers will discuss the elusive hypercoaguable patient and the expanding geographic areas of endemic fungi. Diagnostic Pathology: Don’t miss 2 afternoons packed with interesting case reports. The American Association

of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians travel award winner will be presenting their work on ‘‘Veronaea botryosa: A Potentially Zoonotic, Emerging Fungal Pathogen in Farmed White Sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus).’’ Education: Featured speakers will discuss innovative ideas in veterinary education. Experimental Disease: Featured speakers will discuss pathobiology of intravascular stents, a-fucose–dependent leukocyte trafficking, unraveling cancer pathogenesis, and pathways of liver injury and tumorigenesis. Natural Disease: Featured speakers will discuss vascular and vasogenic diseases of the central nervous system, pathogenesis of transboundary animal diseases, and pathogenesis of viral hemorrhagic fevers. Industrial and Toxicological Pathology: Featured speakers will discuss key challenges in safety assessment, background findings that confound study interpretations in rodents and dogs, and study design for biosafety levels 3 þ 4. Posters will be on display throughout the meeting and can be reviewed during all session breaks in the exhibit hall, so come and take a look! As I conclude my 4 years working with the Focused Scientific Sessions groups, I just want to thank the session chairs, co-chairs, awards chair, and the ACVP administrative staff who contribute so much to the success of the meeting. There is always a diverse set of topics to educate and challenge us. I am looking forward to a terrific meeting, in downtown Atlanta, and I hope to see as many of you there as possible. Shelley J.
