A Mahomedan, a native of this district, died suddenly under very suspicious circumstances. His body was brought in for examination on the 2oth December, 1S66. The appearances were as follows :?Deceased was apparently a healthy man, about thirty-five years of age; eyes sunken in sockets ; no marks of violence visible on surface of body. Brain an I membranes highly congested. Both lungs congested, vessels full of dark blood. Both sides of heart contained dark fluid blood ; cavities not unnaturally dilated; walls and valves natural; patches, which might rightly be designated sub-endocardial cccliymoses, in the These left ventricle, about the columaae carneae, not in them patches extended about a line in depth. They were not numerous, but well marked. Stomach greatly dilated; contained about 30 ounces of a thick reddish fluid, abundantly mixed with mucus, and strings of blood-stained mucus ; a little dark foeces near pyloric orifice; whole mucous membrane highly congested; bloody effusions under mucous membrane near pylorus; numerous minute yellowish or yellowish-green granules scattered over the surface of the stomach; no abrasion of mucous coat; whole track of intestinal canal highly congestive, especially in upper portion; small quantity of solid foece3 in sigmoid flexure of the colon ; liver and spleen natural; kidneys congested ; bladder contained 3 or 4 ounces of high colored but clear urine. The Chemical Examiner to Government for Oudh reported that there were " unequivocal proofs of arsenic in the stomach." A question here suggests itself? Is this appearance in the heart peculiar to arsenic ? Dr. Bonavia does not mention on how many instances he founds his observations. It would be well if every observer recorded his experience on this point. HurduIj 18th Jan., 1867.
