Spontaneous left atrial hematoma causing cardiac failure

An 81-year-old woman was admitted with symptoms of heart failure. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging showed a mass measuring 5  4 cm with medium intensity in both T1 and T2 sequences, in the left atrium (Figure 1). During surgery, a hematoma was found in the left atrial wall, close to the inferior pulmonary vein (Figure 2). The hematoma was resolved and closed with several pledges stitches.
