Dear Editor: As someone who was involved with disaster management since the late 1980s, I would like to thank Senior Editor Margaret (Peggy) M. McMahon, MN, APN, NP-C, CEN, FAEN, for her efforts to help organize the September 2014 issue of the Journal of Emergency Nursing. The multiple articles each touched on a different facet of emergency planning and management.
Surprisingly, it is still difficult to get staff to take emergency exercises with the level of response that is required. Often, staff outside the emergency department continue to believe they are not affected by disasters. We all learn by studying each other’s experiences. I urge all hospitals to read and share the important information reported in this issue with their entire hospital staff.—Judith A.
