Scottish government and tail docking of working dogs At the risk of appearing a Luddite and undoubtedly about to raise dissent in these columns, I feel there are much bigger welfare matters for ‘small animals’ than tail docking that the BVA has also raised, for example, general care, breeding and fireworks, never mind some farm animal issues much nearer to my heart. Some two years ago I ‘rescued’ a nine-month-old English springer spaniel, he is not a gun dog, but is boisterous and has succeeded in cutting the end of his tail (entire) twice diving through undergrowth and June 24, 2017 | Veterinary Record | 617
