As considerable doubt is entertained as to the existence of scarlatina in India, I beg to forward you a brief report of an attack of that disease which some of the children of the under my medical charge have just gone through. On the 3rd of March a draft, 122 strong, arrived at Sealkote

as scarlatina maligna. The other cases, with the exception of the first four, were of the form scarlatina anginosa, the febrile symptoms being attended with pain, enlargement and suppuration of the sub-

maxillary glands; bright redness of uvula and tonsils; back of throat coated with thick mucus; great pain and difficulty of swallowing ; tongue swollen and red ; papilla raised ; inflammation of mucous membrane of nose and the usual eruption. In the nine cases that recovered, there was desquamation of the cuticle, fortunately, except in two, unaccompanied by any (Edema of the extremities formed a severe irritation. promi-
nent symptom, together with albuminous urine. The pulse ranged from 103 to 127; the heat of skin 102? to 109?. *

In the treatment the warm bath was freely used, and gave very great relief to most of the cases. The draft landed at Bombay ou the 1st of February, 1871.
