Although he began a surgical residency at the University of Michigan, he transferred to the radiology residency program in 1943. He was highly respected as a teacher and his close association with the resident staff and his relentless deterrninatlon in encouraging them to make the most of their educational opportunities were in many ways responsible for the excellence of the radiology program at the University of Michigan. During this time he served as consultant to the Tuberculosis Control Division of the U.S. Public Health Service in Washington,D.C. and was radiologic consultant at the Michigan State Sanatorium in Howell, Michigan. In 1952 Dr. Macintyre moved to Houston where he was associate radiologist at Methodist Hospital with the faculty appointment of clinical, assistant professor at Baylor University College of Medicine and clinical associate radiologist at the M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. 1912-1976 the contact with medical students and young physicians but also as a continuation of his early accomplishments as an educator at the University of Michigan. Dr. Macintyre was an extremely popular person whose character was especially exemplified by his impeccable fairness and honesty. He was a warm and close friend about whom I have never heard a critical word. His family life was exemplary and he is survived by his wife, Barbara, four children: Robert, Jim, Pauland Marsha, and a sister, Nina McConnell. Dr. Macintyre was active until his death, enjoying golf and hunting as often as his busy schedule would permit. His death came in a manner befitting the character of his life, quietly and with dignity.
