Richard Gonsette was a pioneer in the use of immunosuppressants in the treatment of MS. In 1977 he published a paper entitled ‘Intensive immunosuppression with cyclophosphamide in MS’ in the Journal of Neurology. He made a significant contribution to the introduction of mitoxantrone into our therapeutic armentarium, and published several papers on this topic. Richard Gonsette had insatiable intellectual curiosity, commitment to excellence and uncompromising integrity. He will be missed by both the Belgian and the international MS community.
