Retrospect of Hematological Malignancies 2012 The Hematologic Malignancies Conference, which has been held on a regular basis beginning into the year 2000, is the annual conference devoted to the study of hematological malignancies. The conference has grown progressively in the number of participants and the number of presentations. The Eighth International Hematologic Malignancies 2012 Conference (HM 2012) was highly successful. There were 625 attendees who came together in Houston, Texas on October 10-14, 2012 at the Hilton Americas Houston Hotel and Convention Center. The meeting was four and a half days in duration, and there were 95 scientific presentations, 30 Meet-the-Professor presentations, and 46 posters complete with abstracts. The purpose of this supplement is to offer an opportunity for the publication of manuscripts based on presentations at this meeting, of which we have included 13, and to publish the abstracts of the material presented in order to update the participants and other readers of the Journal of Clinical Lymphoma, Myeloma & Leukemia on the proceedings. The high point of this meeting was the decision to form a new society, the Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO), which would sponsor an annual meeting in Houston, Texas to bring together leading investigators and practitioners in the field of hematologic

oncology. The growing participation and interest in the hematologic malignancies conferences motivated the formation of the new society. It was recognized that the amount of research and interest in the hematologic malignancies has increased to the point that the exchange of information could not be accomplished at the other major scientific societies. It was clear that we needed an opportunity to focus on the hematologic malignancies, and to have a meeting where interaction between the outstanding leaders, and innovators, and the budding young investigators, could interact to stimulate progress in this important field. During HM 2012, we offered membership in the Society of Hematologic Oncology to all participants, and approximately 400 signed as members. Since that time, membership has continued to grow, and the Society of Hematologic Oncology currently has a membership of more than 750 individuals, which predicts a successful society and a successful annual meeting. The inaugural SOHO Annual Meeting will be held September 18-21, 2013 at the Westin Galleria Hotel in Houston, Texas. For more information about the Society of Hematologic Oncology events and membership, you may visit the SOHO website at www.sohoonline.org.
