physical activity at the beginning and end of the followup period. Participants who reported 150 minutes or more of vigorous physical activity weekly were considered physically active. Sustained physical activity is associated with improved survival and healthy aging in older men. Vigorous physical activity seems to promote healthy aging and should be encouraged when safe and feasible. No further comment is needed. Allen D. Seftel, MD

Re: Low Vitamin D Status is an Independent Predictor of Increased Frailty and All-Cause Mortality in Older Men: The Health in Men Study Y. Y. Wong, K. A. McCaul, B. B. Yeap, G. J. Hankey and L. Flicker Western Australian Centre for Health and Ageing, Western Australia Institute for Medical Research, Crawley, Western Australia, Australia J Clin Endocrinol Metab 2013; 98: 3821e3828.

Abstract available at http://jurology.com/ Editorial Comment: A strong rationale for obtaining a serum vitamin D level and treating a low vitamin D level is presented. Low vitamin D levels were associated with frailty and all cause mortality during a period of 9.2 years. Allen D. Seftel, MD

Re: Lower Plasma Testosterone or Dihydrotestosterone, but Not Estradiol, is Associated with Symptoms of Intermittent Claudication in Older Men B. B. Yeap, H. Alfonso, S. A. Chubb, D. J. Abstract available at http://jurology.com/ Editorial Comment: Another interesting observational study regarding low serum testosterone (T) is presented. The cohort was a group of community dwelling men 70 to 89 years old residing in Perth, Western Australia. Intermittent claudication was ascertained by the Edinburgh Claudication Questionnaire. Early morning plasma T, dihydrotestosterone and estradiol were assayed using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. There were 268 men with intermittent claudication and 2,435 without claudication or any leg pain. Men with nonspecific leg pain (986 subjects) were excluded. After adjusting for age, smoking, body mass index, waist/hip ratio, hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, creatinine and prevalent cardiovascular disease, higher T was associated with a reduced risk of claudication. These are provocative data and certainly highlight the continued T controversy. Allen D. Seftel, MD
