Qatar Medical Journal at the forefront of medical publishing Saffiyah Al-Nuaimi

It is with pleasure that we publish our 32nd issue and the first issue published under Hamad bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press). HBKU Press, formerly known as Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation, launched its publishing program in 2010. Founded on international best practices and excellence, its mission is to provide a unique local and international platform for literature, literacy, scholarship, discovery and learning. Qatar Medical Journal continues to succeed in bringing high quality, cutting-edge research to the forefront through its open access, peer-reviewed model. In recent years, the journal has transitioned from being in print only, to being freely available to read and download on QScience.com. Qatar Medical Journal’s adoption of the open access model is in line with the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030 which aims to provide efficient distribution and access to information as part of a knowledge-based economy. Having open access content will drive research further and improve medical practice in Qatar. A major milestone was the indexing of the journal in PubMed Central which has further enabled the dissemination of all publications. The journal is now widely visited online from all parts of the globe and is considered one of the leading open access peerreviewed medical journals within the Middle East and beyond. In addition, the journal recently implemented independent peer review developed to speed up publication and increase trust in the peer review process.

Moreover, working with Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar National Library, HBKU Press have recently provided all the QMJ backdated files from 1997 which have been made electronically available for the first time. This was a monumental effort which

reflects the significant work published by the journal in the past twenty years. We thank the authors for their valuable contributions and welcome new authors to submit to the journal.
