The Genomic Medicine Alliance (GMA; www. genomicmedicinealliance.org) is an international scientific research network aiming to build/strengthen collaboration ties between academics, researchers, regulators, and the general public interested in all aspects of genomic medicine, focusing in particular on translating results from genomics research into genomic medicine and the clinical practice in general. Also, GMA aims to bridge genomics research between developed and developing

countries, by encouraging technology and knowledge transfer, providing training opportunities to researchers from developing countries, and by stimulating partnerships and consortia formation between GMA members from all over the world. In actual fact, several new international collaborations and regional consortia have already been developed from this initiative. The GMA research activities are multidisciplinary and revolve around six Working Groups in the fields of Phar-

macogenomics, Genome Informatics, Public Health Genomics, Genethics and Economic Evaluation in Genomic Medicine. Scientific coordination is provided by the Scientific Advisory Committee, comprising 14 internationally renowned scientists in the field of genomics research. GMA membership is free-of-charge to encourage participation of researchers from developing and low-income countries and, at present, spans across 53 countries worldwide. We are pleased to announce that Public Health Genomics has recently become the official journal of the GMA. Together we announce the Public Health Genomics–Genomic Medicine Alliance Prize for early-stage researchers in an effort to incentivize young GMA mem-

bers to present their work at the international Golden Helix Symposia® meeting series. This annual prize will be presented for the first time at the 2014 Golden Helix Symposium to the best presentation of a young scientist. Lastly, the editorial team of Public Health Genomics is enriched with new members from the GMA Scientific Advisory Committee to contribute new perspectives to the journal’s aims and scope. This partnership is expected to be mutually beneficial to the GMA members, since it does not only offer unique privileges, discounts, and a prestigious forum of publication of their original research and opinion articles, but is also expected to expand the, already high, impact and readership of Public Health Genomics.
