Results of Memory Function Tests TLE
Introduction Squire classified memory into procedural and declarative memories.' The declarative memory is disturbed in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy' * 6; however, there is no report concerning the procedural memory. The aim of this study is to clarify whether or not the procedural memory is disturbed in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). We compared the functions of procedural and declarative memories in TLE patients and in patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE) , using four different meory function tests. Subjects and Methods Seventeen patients with TLE and 8 patients with IGE were studied at the ambulatory epilepsy clinic at Osaka Medical College Hospital (Table 1). The Tower of Hanoi and Mirror reading tests were carried out in 3 trials to evaluate the procedural memory. The 2nd trial was carried out 30 min. and the 3rd trial 2
