Using an age-and gender-stratified random sample method, 5170 urban adults aged 18-70 years undergoing health examination in Guangzhou were selected. Prehypertension was defined as systolic blood pressure (SBP) of 120-139 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of 80-89 mmHg.
