Pediatric Dermatology

Foreword

Bonita F. Stanton, MD Consulting Editor

What pediatrician would not thrill at the opportunity to have a six-month mini-residency in pediatric dermatology! Dr Shah and the cast of outstanding dermatologists who have compiled these 13 superb articles are not quite offering us that—but something pretty close. This issue is a beautifully written compendium of state-of-the-art descriptions of some of the most common and/or most important (and at times vexing) dermatologic disorders presenting to pediatricians. I know that this issue will be in my clinical office and I suspect that over time the pages will become quite well-worn in each of your copies. Updates on very common but nonetheless very important topics (such as sunburns, diaper dermatitis, nail disorders, atopic dermatitis, and cutaneous fungal and bacterial infections) will be helpful on a daily basis. Less common but certainly presenting in every pediatric practice are children with morphea and lichen sclerosus et atrophicus, cutaneous vasculitis, infantile hemangiomas, psoriasis, and pediatric vitiligo. The volume is very informative, clearly written, and complete with superb illustrations. So maybe some year you will be able to do that six-month mini-residency, but in the meantime, you will be well-versed in state-of-the-art practice regarding pediatric dermatologic disorders.
