Sir, The recent report in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, on pandemic influenza A (H1N1) was very interesting (Chang et al. 2013). Chang and colleagues found that adverse pregnancy outcome was high among pregnant women requiring mechanical ventilation. The severity of this infection among pregnant women is a very important concern in obstetrics (Wiwanitkit 2010). The poor outcome of the pregnant woman is the main consideration. Several factors can contribute to the severe outcomes. In the present report by Chang and colleagues, there are many additional factors that can affect the pregnancy outcome. Zhang et al. (2013) also reported an interesting finding that if the infection occurred during the 2nd or 3rd trimesters, the outcomes would be more serious.

Declaration of interest: The authors report no conflicts of interest. The authors alone are responsible for the content and writing of the paper.
