On admission, her jaws were firmly locked together, so that she had to be fed by pouring milk between the cheek and jaws, countenance pinched ; muscles of neck extremely rigid; extremities pretty free. Countenance pinched, muscles of the neck extremely rigid ; jaws could be opened to the extent of about an inch only; no fits; deglutition unaffected. This patient used to get an increase of rigidity, and tetanic spasms of the muscles now and then, specially when the weather was very bad. OrderedHydrate of chloral 5ss. H.S.: milk every four hours besides her usual diet. Under this plan of treatment, she steadily improved, the rigidity passed off, and she was discharged from the hospital cured, on the 28th of April, 1872.
