On ROOBY trial data and the impacts of revascularization: reply from the author Kim Houlind* Response to: Almassi GH, Shroyer AL, Collins JF, Grover FL. ROOBY trial data demonstrates revascularization had no impact on POAF. Future Cardiol. 10(2), 157 (2014). I thank the authors of the letter for bringing the paper by Almassi and coworkers to my attention [1] . The BHACAS 1 study [2] showed a very large difference between the incidence of postoperative atrial fibrillation after on pump coronary artery bypass surgery (45%) and off pump coronary artery bypass surgery (11%). As I pointed out in the review paper [3] , this difference was much smaller in later studies. The findings of Almassi and coworkers seem to confirm the perception that the avoidance of cardiopulmonary bypass does not in any significant way offer protection against atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass surgery. postoperative atrial fibrillation on patients´outcomes: a report from the Randomized On Versus Off Bypass trial. J. Thorac. Cardiovasc. Surg. 143, 93–102 (2012).
