De Smet J Hand Surg Eur. 2013, 38: 839-43, first published online 6 December 2012 The above paper was submitted to the Journal on 3rd August 2012, accepted on 31st October 2012 and published in print in October 2013. The paper below Long-term outcome of trapeziectomy with ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition (LRTI) versus prosthesis arthroplasty for basal joint osteoarthritis of the thumb Luc De Smet, Lore Vandenberghe, Ilse Degreef Acta Orthop Belg. 2013, 79: 146–9. was published by three of the original six authors in Acta Orthopaedica Belgica in March 2013. The paper in Acta Orthopaedica Belgica reports on a subset of 55 patients from the reported 322 responses in the paper in this Journal. The analysis appears identical. Unfortunately neither paper refers to or cites the other. Neither of the Editors of the two journals was aware of the other paper prior to submission and acceptance. Researchers reviewing data on thumb base surgery need to be aware that some of the data has been reported twice. Grey Giddins Editor-in-Chief
