New RCVS President looks to a year of continuous improvement Bradley Viner was elected as President of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for 2015/16 at its annual general meeting, held in London on July 10. On taking up his new role, he undertook to do everything he could to ensure that the RCVS continued to improve and develop. Dr Viner highlighted three areas that he considered crucial for his presidential year, these being the Vet Futures project, which is due to deliver its final report in November; the new RCVS Fellowship; and the new Practice Standards Scheme, which is due to launch in November. ‘If I had to pick a theme for my year it would be continual improvement,’ he said. ‘It is a very easy term to bandy about, but much more difficult to actually implement efficiently. It involves accepting that there are many different ways we can tackle the challenges we face, and that we rarely do things perfectly. It is only by recognising our imperfections that we can get better,

and it takes courage to open oneself up to criticism.’ The College, he added, ‘is doing extremely well’ and ‘it can continue to improve and become even better’. Dr Viner, who has been an elected member of the RCVS Council since 2005,

succeeded Stuart Reid as RCVS President. Professor Reid replaced Neil Smith as the College’s senior vice-president, while Chris Tufnell was elected as the new junior vice-president. doi: 10.1136/vr.h3846
