New Data Source for Drug Abuse Epidemiology Research The Drug Abuse Epidemiology Data Center (DAEDAC) was established at Texas Christian University in 1974 under a federal grant. This new Center is associated with the drug abuse research program at the TCU Institute of Behavioral Research (IBR). The purposes of DAEDAC are: 1. To create a comprehensive f i e of data relevant t o epidemiological and

social science aspects of drug use and abuse. 2. To make the collected data files available to the scientific community for further epidemiological and social science research on drug abuse. The DAEDAC files include: (1) the aggregate File and (2) the Original Data File. The Aggregate FiZe contains special purpose bibliographies, data printouts, and photocopies of specific documents found in statistical series and research literature. These are available at cost. The user’s Instruction Manual, available on loan or at cost, contains a listing of all variables within the file and groups variables by major domains. The Original Data File consists of computer tapes of the original data of selected surveys, evaluation studies, and other large-scale drug abuse data sources that have potential for secondary analysis. These data are edited rigorously for confidentiality as well as for accuracy and interpretability. Some files are available for independent analysis by users on their own computers. A number are restricted for confidentiality reasons and are available to users only if analyzed by the IBR staff according to user specifications. Cost estimates may be requested. Investigators with files relevant to DAEDAC are encouraged to make them available to the Center. The rights of contributors will be protected. In addition to appropriate citation of their source work, they will retain
