We thank Prof Sturmberg for his interest in our paper. We also could not agree more that (re)building trust is a key to improvement of today’s unsatisfactory status of healthcare systems across the globe. Without trust, interactions between patients and physicians – complete strangers who often face circumstances where life-, death-, and health-related decisions have to be made – the status of the quality of care will continue to deteriorate. We agree with Prof Sturmberg about the importance of the role of uncertainty in medical encounters. We also find very interesting that a power-law distribution may describe many health-related phenomena, and by implication the trust status! It would be fascinating to get more empirical data about distribution of trust in health care (e.g. is 80% of doctors trusted by their 20% patients only?).
