It is a matter for regret that there is not a proportionate number of contributors from the Services in Madras, Bombay and Burma, from the Medical Staff, and from private practitioners in India, China and the Colonies. Our object is to render this Journal useful and popular amongst all classes of workers in the field of medicine and the allied sciences in India and the East.

"GRAVE FORMS OF PURPURA HEMORRHAGICA"
Is the title of a paper in the transactions of the association of American physicians by Dr. Muaser. He divides purpura into Idiopathic and Symptomatic. In the former he includes simple purpuras P. rheumatica, and peliosis rheumatica. In the latter he groups " those cases of haemorrhage due to the anaemias, to scurvy, to haemophilia, to septic processes frequently ; to some cachexia, as notably in carcithe latter stages of noma of the stomach, to of disease and hepatic Bright's disease, and to the curious forms of subcutaneous haemorrhage that arise in certain cases of sarcoma, particularly of the skin and bones." He states that Litzerich, of Wiessbaden, has succeeded in getting the bacillus of purpura. It resembles the bacillus of anthrax, but differs in size and form. The spores of the anthrax are smaller and rounded. The bacillus of purpura forms no toscine as the anthrax bacillus does, but a weakly acting ptomaine; hence, there is little fever in purpura. From a study of his cases, Dr. Musser makes the following summary :? (1) "Excessive haemorrhage from one point may be the only manifestation of purpura."^
