40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DUTCH BURNS ASSOCIATION ARNHEM, THE NETHERLANDS, APRIL 4TH, 2014
As organizer and chairman of the scientific committee of the 40th Anniversary of the Dutch Burns Association Special Symposium on April 4, 2014, held at the fire department academy in Arnhem, the Netherlands, Dr. Scholten who has listened to Prof. B. Atiyeh, MBC President, in 2011 at the EBA meeting in The Hague making a presentation about “Burns Management in Low and Middle Income Countries”, has invited him deliver a 1hr lecture about the same topic for the occasion. The meeting was attended by most Dutch burns specialists same as by officials and members of the Dutch fire department. The lecture giv-
en by Prof. Atiyeh was an eye opener to the true situation of burns injuries and management worldwide. The conference was preceded on April 3rd by a visit to the Dutch Burns Foundation office and of the Burn Centre in Beverwijk. Tissue bank of the foundation was also visited and a meeting with Prof. David Mackie was arranged. Following the conference in Arnhem, another visit to the Burn Center in Groningen was organized together with Prof. Gerard Beerthuizen who was instrumental in promoting close MBC-EBA ties and EBA’s association to Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters.
