Marijuana use and neonatal morbidity 2

ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPT Conner SN

Abstract:

51

OBJECTIVE: Marijuana use is becoming increasingly common in the obstetric population,

52

however it is unknown whether it is associated with poor neonatal outcomes. We sought to

53

determine the prevalence and risk factors for marijuana use in pregnancy, and to evaluate

54

whether marijuana use is independently associated with poor neonatal outcomes.

55

STUDY DESIGN: This was a retrospective cohort study of all consecutive, non-anomalous,

56

term deliveries at one institution over a 4 year study period. Women with marijuana use during

57

pregnancy, either by self-report or positive urine drug screen, were compared with women who

58

did not use marijuana. The primary outcome was a composite neonatal morbidity including:

59

birth-weight less than 2500g, NICU admission, 5 minute APGAR score less than 7, and

60

umbilical artery pH
