Malignant Melanoma of the Male Urethra Primary malignant melanoma is rare in the urinary tract and only 8 of male urethral involvement have been reported.
ago, he suffered from gonorrhoea. Retrograde urethrograni demonstrated irregular tilliitg defects with two stenotic regions (Fig. I). Endosxpic examination revealed friable papillary turnours. On 27 March the urethra was removed for he refused penile amputation. There was no apparent involvement of the corpora cavernosa. Grosslv multiple tuniours with . .papillary . adjacent small blu-ish area was noted-on the urethral mucosa (Fig. 2). A diagnosis of squanioiis cell carcinoma was made at this time. On I I December he was rehospitalised for dyspnea and general exhaustion. Chesi film showed multiple nietastatic shadows. A small bluish nodule was noticed subcutaneously in the abdominal wall and was excised 2 week later for its progressive enlargement. Histological examination showed metastatic melanoma. The previous operative specimen was re-examined and the diagnobis was established as “Malignant melanoma of the urethra”. He died on I I February 1974. Autopsy revealed widespread melanomatous dissemination.
