Lichen Planus A 30-year-old Caucasian woman consulted because of numerous pruritic lesions over the extremities which began to develop 3 months before. Clinically, many papules, from pinhead to about ! cm'-* in size, were seen. They appeared shiny and were erythematous or violaceous in color (Fig. 1). Histopathologically, multiple biopsies of lesions of different duration showed hyperkeratosis, beading of the stratum granulosum, acanthosis, eosinophilia in cells of the stratum nialpighii, liquefaction degeneration of the basal cell layer, hyaline or colloid bodies, and a chronic inflammatory infiltrate with melanophages in the upper dermis (Figs. 2, 3, 4).
