Dear Jenner This very evening I was going to vrite to you when behold a basket came with Pea Fowls Lizards and Birds legs. I know nothing of the natural history of the vivip: Lizzard but think I shall ask Sir Jos Banks, who I dar say knows but I should like to have them when with young, therefor beg you will give a Genteel reward to those who will bring you several, and let me know in what situation they are commonly found that I may imploy others to hunt for me. How did the puppy and vou agree? Last night I look'd over all your Letters to see the one giving me the account of the Porpoise. but I could not find it, Therefore I must beg your account of them, and the milk xc, which I hope you will send soon. Lord Barkelv has nat sent for his Dog. Have you had any account of the Bustard? Monday morning has produced nothing new, so good day to youi JOHIN HUNTER March 4th It was appropriate to ask Sir Joseph Banks, President of the Royal Society, about the

viviparous lizard. It was on John Hunter's strong recommendation that Edward Jenner,

uwhile a pupil surgeon, wAas engaged to assist Sir Joseph in sorting out and classifying the collection of plants brought back to England by Sir Joseph from Captain Cook's voyage of discovery in the Endeavour to Australia. Jenner made such an impression that he was invited to joiIn the expedition of the Resolution to Iceland, but he declined, preferring to be a country surgeoni in his beloved Berkeley in Gloucestershire.
