Letter from the President of PSNCB Jacqueline Frazee, RNFA, BSN, CPSN

T

he Plastic Surgical Nurses Certification Board is excited for the upcoming initiatives of the organization. In 2015, the Board will move forward with the accreditation process of the Certified Plastic Surgical Nurse (CPSN) examination through the American Board of Nursing Specialties. This is an extensive process, which has already begun, and we are looking forward to being able to promote this distinction among other certification examinations. We also plan to apply for accreditation for the certified aesthetic nurse specialist (CANS) examination once 200 candidates have been certified. We currently have 64 CANS. In April, the PSNCB will revise the CPSN examination, which is done every 4 years to ensure that the content is fresh in our ever-evolving specialty. The release of the 4th edition of the Core Curriculum in Plastic Surgical Nursing this summer will be helpful in preparing for the revised examination, which will be used in the fall offerings.

Also, I am pleased to announce an addition to our Board. Belinda Andrews-Smith has joined the PSNCB as a public member. The purpose of the public member is to ensure that consumers have input into the policies and decisions of PSNCB. Dr. Andrews-Smith is the Coordinator of Vocal Studies for the Denison Music Department in Granville, OH. She is an accomplished soprano who maintains a busy singing and academic career. The Board is looking forward to her input as we aim to represent the best interest of both plastic surgical nurses and the general public. Also, we will have two positions open on the PSNCB board. Anyone wishing to apply please submit a resume with cover letter to the national office for consideration. We would like to have the positions filled in time for the October board meeting in Chicago. It will be a busy but exciting time as we move toward our goal of accreditation. Jacqueline Frazee, RNFA, BSN, CPSN President
