EDITOR’S CORNER

Letter from the editor Dear reader, This issue of Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics starts with a Portrait of Dr. Ted Ross of University of Georgia. You will learn about his way to being a vaccinologist with a particular interest in influenza vaccines and vaccine design (Ross, p 560). We present six articles on Immunotherapy. Two reviews discuss algenpantucel-L treatment of pancreatic adenocarcinoma (McCormick, p 563) and anti-cancer antibodies targeting HER3 (Gaborit, p 576), a research article probes the peptidome bound to HLA-DR on B cells (Blazekovic, p 593), a review presents how anaerobic oncolytic bacteria can be used to enhance efficacy of therapeutic cancer vaccines (Ni, p 599), and two commentaries deal with tumor-targeting in NK-based therapies (Murray, p 607) and DC-targeting vaccines (Chen, p 612). The Licensed Vaccines section contains a study of attitudes towards vaccine administration by pharmacists in Canada (MacDougall, p 623), reviews on vaccine-preventable diseases in lupus patients (Murdaca, p 632) and recommendations for pediatric TB vaccination in Italy (Montagnani, p 644), a comparison of the safety of two vaccination strategies for measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (Cocchio, p 651), a Phase 3 study of safety and immunogenicity of DTPa-IPV/Hib vaccine in healthy Vietnamese toddlers (Anh, p 655), a report on the status of polio elimination in Nigeria (Nasir, p 658), and commentaries on the immunogenicity of tetanus and diphtheria toxoids and non-toxic mutant diphteria toxin (Br€ oker, p 664), and a commentary on the need of maternal immunization in India (Verma, p 668). We are happy to introduce five Influenza articles: a systematic review of interventions to increase vaccination in healthcare workers (Lytras, p 671), a literature review of the dependence of efficacy on aging (Frasca, p 682), a study of vitamin D’s immunomodulatory role in H1N1 immunization (Sadarangani, p 691), a short report on the unpredictability of the antigenic drift in seasonal influenza and how to cope with it (Dos Santos, p 699), and a commentary on

the vaccine-circulating strain mismatch in the context of Hajj pilgrimage (Alfelali, p 709). In the Novel Vaccines section one can find a review on Chikungunya vaccines in development (Schwameis, p 716), a preclinical safety evaluation of a gene therapy of rheumatoid arthritis (Zhou, p 732), an assessment of rotavirus capsid protein as an adjuvant in norovirus immunization (Blazevic, p 740), a meeting report from the 25th ECCMID meeting held in Copenhagen, Denmark (Esposito, p 749), and three commentaries on vaccine strategies for cystic fibrosis pathogens (Le Moigne, p 751), Lyme disease vaccine development and implementation (Kaaijk, p 757), and epitope-based vaccine design (Oyarz un, p 763). We present a short report on the association between persistent HPV 16 or 18 infection and cervical disease (Radley, p 768), two articles on Hepatitis B: a review of adult vaccination in China (Qiu, p 773) and a report on the immune status in adolescence after childhood immunization (Anderson, p 779), and two research articles on Rotavirus: immunogenicity analysis of RIX4414 vaccine in Chinese infants (Li, p 785) and cost-effectiveness study of vaccination in Iran (Mousavi Jarrahi, p 794). Finally, we include a report on vaccine Acceptance in children with rare genetic diseases (Esposito, p 801), a review of the PLGA particle Technology in vaccine delivery (Allahyari, p 806), a description of a novel transgenic mouse line for vaccine evaluation (Zeng, p 829), and a study of a novel approach to Passive Immunization against rabies (Bharti, p 837). Our monthly News, Policy and Profiles (NP&P) track offers a selection of the latest news in the field of vaccines and immunotherapeutics. In this section we also regularly publish opinion pieces on timely, interesting and controversial topics related to vaccines and immunotherapeutics, profiles of companies and organizations, as well as portraits of distinguished scientists in our field. Please contact Acquisitions Editor Adam Weiss ([email protected]) with your ideas for commentaries, opinion pieces, profiles and portraits.
