Afterward the daily dose can, if warranted, be reduced to 2 tablets. Patients should be convinced of the necessity and importance of taking their medication regularly every day, preferably with their meals and at bedtime. The difference between success and failure is often directly related to the way the patient follows the dosage schedule. Composition - Tablets: Each 1 mg tablet contains the methanesulfonates of dihydroergocornine, dihydroergocristine and dihydroergokryptine in equal proportions. Ampoules: Each 1 ml ampoule contains 0.3 mg Hydergine consisting of the methanesulfonates of dihydroergocornine, dihydroergocristine and dihydroergokryptine in equal proportions.

calls for greater involvement of the pharmacist in the provision of primary care. Pharmaceutic associations and faculties of pharmacy in both Canada and the United States have recognized the potential contribution of the pharmacist in health care. Students at the faculty of pharmacy, University of Toronto, receive instruction in patientinterviewing techniques, pharmacotherapeutics and clinical pharmacy. These courses enable the student to apply to patient care the knowledge obtained in basic science courses. Certain aspects of diagnosis are taught so that the pharmacist may recognize potentially serious disorders and direct the patient to his physician. It is not intended to turn the pharmacist into a diagnostician. Dr. Bass also referred to the frequent prescribing of over-the-counter medications by pharmacists. The present pharmacy curriculum puts greater emphasis on the rational use of these products than in the past. At the ambulatory patient pharmacy at Sunnybrook Medical Centre, the pharmacist maintains patient medication profiles, which contain a record of the patient's selfmedicating habits. In addition, the pharmacist instructs the patient in the correct method of administration of prescription medications and counsels him about over-the-counter products. Some pharmacists, therefore, are becoming more clinically involved and are concerned with the self-medication habits of patients. DOROTHY L. SMITH, PHARM J. W.R. BARTLE, PHARM D

Side Effects - Hydergine is usually well tolerated even in larger doses. Side effects are few and very slight. In addition to nasal stuffiness, there may be nausea, gastric pressure, anorexia, and headache, especially in patients with autonomic lability. In such cases, it is advisable to reduce the dose or administer it during or after meals.

Specialized translators needed To the editor: The multilingual services division of the translation bureau, Department of the Secretary of State, has been providing translations of foreign scientific and technical research papers for Canadian government scientists for many years. These translations are available world-wide to all interested persons through the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information of the National Research Council of Canada at the cost of reproduction. The increasing specialization and complexity of foreign research papers demands such specialized knowledge, in addition to the ability to translate from foreign languages into idiomatic English, that we now have great difficulty in finding qualified persons who can accept assignments to translate for a fee on a freelance basis in their spare time. The specialized areas in which we need help are only limited by the present state of scientific and technical knowledge around the world. The main
