Lessons I have learnt about the cornea: comment I read with interest Hugh Taylor’s letter, ‘Lessons I have learnt about the cornea’, which was recently published in this journal.1 I noted his comment on Prednefrin Forte (Allergan, Sydney, Australia). I fail to understand why Allergan continues to include phenylephrine HCl 0.12% in the preparation. In the USA, it is marketed, I understand, as ‘Pred Forte’ and does not include phenylephrine. I remember years ago how ophthalmologists were surprised when their iris supported intra-ocular lenses would dislocate post-operatively due to the pupil dilating effect of the phenylephrine in Prednefrin Forte. I have found that the vast majority of registrars who came to Lismore since 1988 were unaware of the presence or strength of phenylephrine in Prednefrin Forte, but were happy to prescribe it.
