Letters to the Editor Dysmenorrhea in Nursing Students To the Editor: Sir, the recent report on ‘‘dysmenorrhea in nursing students’’ is very interesting (Seven et al., 2014). Seven et al. (2014) reported that ‘‘the rate of seeking medical help is low’’ despite the fact that nurses should be well educated about health problems and be models for the general population. The question is why the nursing students prefer not to seek medical help with the problem of menstruation pain. In fact, talking about menstruation seems to be taboo in many Asian communities (Sommer & Sahin, 2013). As Spears (2005) noted, ‘‘menstrual pain is a prevalent experience yet it is socially taboo for conversation; as such, it poses a hindrance to its management.’’ Sometimes, patients might seek alternative medical care rather than standard care (Spears, 2005). Overcoming the taboos regarding menstruation seems to be an important issue for successfully management of dysmenorrhea as well as other gynecologic disorders (Sommer & Sahin, 2013; Yagnik, 2014).

Knowledge about Sterile Water Injections for Pain Relief in Labor To the Editor: We would like to discuss on the publication of ‘‘Knowledge about Sterile Water Injections for Pain ~ ez-Gil, Oliva-Perez, & Relief in Labor’’ (Iban ~ez-Gil et al. (2014) perSimonelli-Mu~ noz, 2014). Iban formed a study ‘‘to determine whether gynecologists and midwives are aware of the use of sterile water injections for pain relief during childbirth’’ and noted ‘‘a lack of knowledge regarding this technique, as well as educational interest in the fact that women have more knowledge than men.’’ In fact, the lack of knowledge is the common problem (M artensson, McSwiggin, & Mercer, 2008; M artensson & Wallin, 2006). Nevertheless, M artensson et al. (2008) and M artensson and Wallin (2006) reported ‘‘an interest in knowing more’’ and concluded that ‘‘a weakness

in midwives’ awareness’’ is a big problem. Finally, the basic rule that should not be forgotten is sanitation and infection control during the sterile water injection.
