The Guest Editors of this issue of Seminars in Neurology are Drs. Karunesh Ganguly and Gary Abrams. Dr. Ganguly is Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Stanford University, and then his MD/PhD in neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego. He trained in neurology at UCSF, where he subsequently did a postdoctoral fellowship in neural engineering. He then joined the faculty at UCSF, where he has been enormously successful in his research in neurorehabilitation, with a particular focus on neuroplasticity, neuroprosthetics, and brain–machine interfaces. He is one of the real rising stars in the field of neurorehabilitation, and it was truly a pleasure for me to work with him on this issue! Dr. Abrams is Professor of Neurology at UCSF. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and then received his MD from University of Pittsburgh, where he stayed on for his medical internship. He attended Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York for his residency in neurology,

where he was also chief resident. He then did a fellowship at Columbia in neuroendocrinology. After starting his career at Columbia where he rose to the rank of Associate Professor, he came to UCSF in 1995 and is now Professor in Clinical Neurology. He is seen as one of the true leaders in the field of neurorehabilitation, with particular expertise in traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, stroke, geriatrics, pain management, neuroendocrinology, neuroimaging, and medical education. It has been an honor and privilege working with Dr. Abrams on this issue of Seminars. We greatly appreciate the efforts of Drs. Ganguly and Abrams, as well as all of their contributing authors, for their great work in this issue of Seminars. The issue provides the reader with a terrific understanding of this underrepresented area in neurology, one that touches on nearly every patient we all see in practice. We hope the issue is helpful to you in improving your knowledge of the subject, with practical advice for management and an eye toward the future of research in the field of neurorehabilitation that will improve the care of patients with disabling neurologic disorders.
