titles and their subscription costs for the years 1965 and 1974. Table 2 shows the advance of average subscription prices for Abridged Index Medicus titles from the year 1965 to 1974. Table 3 indicates the range of percentage increase over a ten-year period.

The four indexes studied showed a wide range of pricing policies: (1) Since its inception in 1966 the International Nursing Index has ranged from $15 to $25 per subscription, a 67% price increase and much in line with journal prices overall. (2) Hospital Literature Index has remained at $10 per year over the past ten years. (3) Abridged Index Medicus began in 1970 at $12 per year. It is currently $21.90, a rise in price of 83%.
