Editorial This thematic issue is dedicated to the topics of colloids and energy, with selected papers presented at the 3rd International Colloids Conference – Colloids and Energy which was held in Xiamen, China on April 21–24, 2013. The conference followed the first two successful Colloids conferences in Amsterdam on Colloidal and Materials, and Nanomedicine, respectively, in 2011 and 2012. The Conference featured 48 keynote and invited lectures, and 130 poster presentations. The topics of these presentations covered diverse and exciting areas of research in colloids and energy, including nanomaterials for energy generation and storage, catalysts for effective conversion of fossil energy, colloids and interfaces in biofuels production, photochemical conversions and interfaces, and other chemical energy storage, fuel cells and hydrogen production, storage and utilization. This thematic issue contains a number of high quality papers selected from those presentations and peer-reviewed in the usual process. We would like to thank the authors and reviewers for these papers included in this special issue, for their hard work and effort in contributing their papers and in the editorial process.
