COMMENTARY: REFLECTIONS ON 40 YEARS

Preface

Published online: 17 May 2014 # Springer Science+Business Media New York 2014

Continuing with our essays celebrating 40 years of the Journal of Chemical Ecology, we here present another group of thoughts from distinguished scientists. This collection includes insights from both older pioneers and current prominent researchers. Topics as diverse as microbes, insect olfaction, and global ecology are touched upon. Areas of convergence and divergence, topics of untapped potential, and the perspectives of youth and the emerging

world are covered. All in all, this is another stimulating and thought provoking group. There may be a few more essays in the June issue. Meanwhile, the 23 we now have published are being collected and are available on the Journal website http://www.springer.com/life+ sciences/ecology/journal/10886. As we move into our 5th decade, there is plenty of food for thought. I hope they are useful! John Romeo, Editor, Journal of Chemical Ecology
