EDITORIAL

JICD matters quality of the journal, although unfortunately, it also means that the manuscript rejection rate, now approaching 70%, would disappoint a fair proportion of authors. The journal also strives to maintain a rapid publication rate and I am thankful to our expert panel of reviewers for helping us to do so. Once again, in this issue, we attempt to provide you with a wide coverage of comprehensive, cutting edge research and discovery, and we sincerely believe that it will add to the growing reputation of JICD as a focused journal that helps to publish the oral and stomatological investigations, particularly from the developing regions of the World. Happy reading! Dear readers, Happy New Year and welcome to the third issue of JICD! Once again the current issue of JICD is packed with articles from around the globe, particularly from the Asian region in keeping with our pledge of being an Asia focused journal. Three of the nine articles in this issue are related to oral medicine, beginning with a concise review by Warnakulasuriya and Cain1 on the intense debate on screening for oral cancer. This is a timely and a succinct review on the evidence base around the oral cancer screening debate. The remaining two articles on oral medicine from India2 and Syria3 address the debilitating condition of submucous fibrosis, common in the Indian subcontinent, and gene polymorphism in autosomal amelogenesis imperfecta among Syrian families, respectively. Periodontology also features well in this edition with articles on P. gingivalis and the use of chlorhexidine mouthwash in chronic periodontitis patients.4–6 Paedodontics, oral epidemiology and dental biomaterials are other disciplines that are spotlighted in the remainder of the articles. We are also grateful for the large numbers of manuscripts we continuously receive since the inception of JICD less than a year ago. This helps us to maintain the
