JCEHP’s New—and First—Social Media Editor

CURTIS A. OLSON, PHD

The core business of JCEHP is publication and dissemination of scholarly works on continuing education in the health professions (CEHP). Providing a forum for discussion of issues of import to CEHP researchers, practitioners, and policymakers is also an important role for the journal; however, our quarterly publication schedule has made realizing the latter goal challenging at best. Journals also have an obligation to be responsive to the changing needs and information-seeking behaviors of their readers, which necessarily means giving attention to their social media preferences. For these reasons, I recently asked Alexander Djuricich, MD, to join JCEHP’s Editorial Board as its first social media editor. Alex is the associate dean for continuing medical education and a program director in Medicine–Pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He brings extensive experience and expertise on the use of social media in medical education, and the journal is very fortunate to have enlisted him.

In this issue of JCEHP, Dr. Djuricich outlines how he sees his role and articulates a vision for how JCEHP might use Twitter, blogs, and other media to disseminate information about important works published in JCEHP and other journals and provide a forum for discussing them.1 I encourage all readers to learn about Dr. Djuricich’s vision by reading his article, and to take advantage of the new learning opportunities he is providing to learn about and discuss the latest developments and emerging issues in the field. On behalf of the entire editorial staff, I want to publicly welcome Dr. Djuricich to JCEHP’s Editorial Board. His contributions will be instrumental in extending the reach of the journal and providing new opportunities for our readers to share their knowledge and perspectives. Reference 1. Djuricich AM.
