Thirteen children ( a g e s 9.2 +_ 3.7 years, m e a n _+ SD) r e c e i v e d intravenous doses of l a b e t a l o l , an =i- a n d 3 - a d r e n e r g i c blocker, on 15 s e p a r a t e o c c a s i o n s for t r e a t m e n t of hypertension. In 12 of 15 e p i s o d e s an initial dose of 0.55 _+ 0.34 m g / k g was given; in all 15 a continuous infusion of 0.78 +_ 0.39 m g / k g per hour was utilized for 67.3 _ 57.1 hours. A significant d e c r e a s e in systemic b l o o d pressure o c c u r r e d in all episodes (143/99.1 _+ 17.7/11.1 vs 115.6/72.4 _+ 7.7/9.5; p 50 (n = 6) were c o m p a r e d with those with c r e a t i n e c l e a r a n c e s
