Samuel Richard Beatty, M.D. 1903-1978

The pioneer radiologist of northern Wisconsin, Samuel Richard Beatty, M.D., died January 29, 1978 after a brief illness. Dr. Beatty was born in Beverly, Ohio on August 1, 1903. He attended Whittier College and the University of California at Los Angeles. His M.D. was earned at the University of Wisconsin in 1932 where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha honorary medical society. He was also a member of Sigma Sigma medical fraternity. An internship at the Oklahoma State University Hospital was followed by radiology training at the University of Wisconsin Medical Center. In addition to becoming a member of RSNA in 1940, Dr. Beatty became a diplomate of the American Board of Radiology and a fellow of the American College of Radiology. Dr. Beatty taught at the University of Colorado Medical School and did research at the University of Wisconsin. In 1939, he began private practice in Neenah, Menasha and Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Dr. Beatty was president of the Wisconsin State Radiological Society and held many county and local medical offices before his retirement in 1973. Although Dick enjoyed woodworking at which he excelled and reading science fiction, his greatest joy was conversation, any subject, any time, with a host of friends in and out of medical circles. He is sorely missed by his many friends and colleagues. Surviving Dick are his wife, Meredyth and three daughters. Samuel Richard Beatty, M.D.
