The function of normal polymorphonuclear cells in the ascitic fluid of 32 patients with cirrhotic ascites and 17 patients with malignant ascites was studied independently of ascitic fluid heat-labile factors. Polymorphonuclear (PMN) function was assessed by a chemiluminescence method using preopsonized zymosan as stimuli.
