IMPACTED MOLAR

A

49-year-old white man was seen for a regular dental check that included radiographic examination (Fig. 1). He was unaware of the impacted molar in the mandibular right quadrant. The patient stated that the mandibular right second molar had been extracted years ago and that the procedure was a difficult one. It is concluded that an impacted tooth had been surgically displaced (Fig. 2) and that the patient apparently was not advised of this. Whether the displaced tooth is a second or third molar is debat-

able. The patient was advised of the presence of the tooth but refused further treatment. James V. Johnson Lazaro Chavarria Dental Branch University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston P.0. Box 20068 Houston, TX 77225
