Histocompatibility Antigens Associated with Beh^et's Disease in Northern Han Chinese Satoru Mineshita**, Ding Tian*, Li-man Wang***, Xiu-Yi Jian****, Shi-Yin Li*, Gao-Zhang Fang*****, Tian-Yu Bian***, Hai-Sun Liao*, Mitsuru Tsuchida**, Heizo Tanaka** and Akira Sakuma** Among Han nationality Chinese and living in the northern area of the Yellow River, 120 patients suffering from Beh^et's disease and 100 unrelated healthy individuals were typed for histocompatibility antigens (HLA)-A, -B, -C, and -DR and -DQ antigens. HLA-DR and DQ typing was performed on B-lymphocyte separated with Lympho-B-Kwik. The HLA-antisera were provided by llth IHWC. Bf alleles and C4 allotypes were determined by immunofixation agarose-gel electrophoresis. HLA-B51 was found in 67/120 (55.83%) patients and in 12/100 (12%) controls, frequency the Chi-square and relativeincreased risk values 45.54 group. and 9.27, respectively < 0.0005). C4AQo was significantly in were the patient In the complete (p form group HLA-B51 was observed more frequently (62.79%). No significant differences of other HLA antigens, frequencies, Bf or B4 alleles were found between the groups. (Internal Medicine 31: 1073-1075, 1992) Key words: Beh^et's disease, HLA, Chinese

HLA-B51 was found in 67/120 (55.83%) patients and in 12/100 (12%) controls, the Chi-square and relative risk (RR) values were 45.54 and 9.27 respectively (Table 1, p < 0.0005). In the complete form group, the frequency of HLA-B51 was higher (27/43, 62.79%, Table 2) than in the incomplete form (40/77, 51.95%), but there was no statistically significant difference. Some HLA anti gens, such as a cluster of -Bw52 and -B35, often showed strong cross reactions serologically with -B51 but their frequencies were not changed in the study. The frequency of HLA-DR4 and -DQw3 was slightly increased in the patient group but the differences were not statistically significant 1). As shown in this Table, Bf S07 frequency was increased in the patient group, but no statistical significance was found between the groups. C4AQ0 frequency was significantly increased in the patient group (x2 = 39.16; RR = 16.00, P
