year holds much in store for ChemPhysChem, as we embark on a new-age electronic era. Online electronic processes are becoming increasingly important in today’s publishing landscape, be it as a means to streamline editorial processes or to provide continuous and comprehensive access to a journal’s content. With this in mind, we are poised to introduce some exciting new features that will make it easier for you to submit your manuscripts and to read ChemPhysChem articles, as well as the content of our sister journals, wherever you are.

Electrochemistry
has grown tremendously in recent years, partly fueled by the drive for cleaner energy technologies and the need for new ways to store energy, but also because of recent developments in new techniques and instrumentation that enable fundamental, and often low-cost, research. Electrochemistry no longer simply represents a subdivision of physical chemistry, but should be considered a booming research area of its own. After many of our society partners expressed the desire for a journal that focuses on electrochemistry, we decided to launch ChemElectroChem, which is co-owned by WileyVCH and ChemPubSoc Europe (our society partner consisting of 16 European chemical societies). ChemElectroChem is further supported by an outstanding international Editorial Advisory Board, chaired by Bing-Wei Mao (Xiamen University, China), Wolfgang Schuhmann (Ruhr-Universitt Bochum, Germany) and Jean-Marie Tarascon (Universit de Picardie Jules Verne, France). The editorial office of ChemElectroChem is managed by the experienced ChemPhysChem team, which was expanded in July 2013 by the addition of electrochemist Dr. Kate LawChemPhysChem 2014, 15, 3 – 4

This is the internet portal jointly presented by WileyVCH and ChemPubSoc Europe to provide its readers with information about important, current, and interesting chemistry; this content is free to access and is also regularly distributed to a vast number of subscribers in the form of newsletters and the ChemViews magazine. Amongst the cornucopia of content, stimulating papers are often selected by our editorial team to be highlighted in the ChemViews magazine. A new addition is that selected “VIPs” (very important papers, which are identified based on exceptional referee reports) from the diverse journal portfolio of Wiley-VCH will be featured in the form of a “Behind the Science” interview, which was successfully piloted by ChemPhysChem (see http://www.chemistryviews.org/details/ezine/5455551/Phthalocyanine-based Nanocages.html). This new feature enables our readers to find out extra behindthe-scenes information about ground-breaking research, as well as to understand the goals of the author. This new system will be easy to use for authors and referees alike, and it will enable us to provide you with a faster and more efficient service. The new web-based system, Editorial Manager, will replace manuscriptXpress throughout the entire ChemXChem family and will also be implemented by our other sister journals. Furthermore, keeping with the digital theme, we are extending the mobile services for our readers, that is, we are about to launch the ChemPhysChem App, similar to the popular Angewandte Chemie App, as well as a new feature, the Anywhere Article. The latter will enable you to read articles from ChemPhysChem (and its sister journals) on any mobile device, anywhere, anytime.

was a special year for ChemPhysChem, bringing about a significant increase in both the number of submissions and published contributions, compared with 2012 and the years before.
